Sony-Backed Soneium Plans Ecosystem Token for On-Chain Entertainment

Soneium, the blockchain ecosystem backed by Sony Group-linked infrastructure, announced plans for an ecosystem token intended to connect creators, entertainment rights holders, developers and fans. The project said on October 26 that it wants to build an on-chain economy around intellectual property, royalties and commercial participation.

The most important clarification is that no SONEIUM token has been issued. According to Soneium’s official announcement, further details on its prospective token-generation event and distribution will be released later.

Tokenized entertainment becomes the focus

Soneium describes a network with more than 250 applications spanning music, video games, animation, cinema and collectibles. Its updated strategy centers on tokenized intellectual property that could make creator-related rights and participation records accessible through blockchain infrastructure.

Examples include collectibles associated with individual projects and fungible tokens linked to an intellectual-property ecosystem. Their economic rights would depend on a specific product’s documents; not every token represents copyright ownership, equity or a claim on royalties.

IP registries and programmable licensing

The project outlines three components: a registry to identify creative works and their metadata, a graph connecting originals with derivative and AI-assisted creations, and an execution layer designed to administer royalties, revenue splits and licensing payments through smart contracts.

These systems are proposed to complement existing law, not replace copyright registration, licensing agreements or legal enforcement. Their practical value depends on accurate inputs, enforceable contracts and rights holders participating in the relevant registry.

Music and entertainment projects planned

Soneium cited Moriusa, a character intellectual-property project, as an early example of its tokenized entertainment strategy. It also discussed partnerships aimed at connecting revenue from K-pop-related concert businesses and other creative activity to tokenized products.

The announcement does not establish that all proposed royalty-based assets are already trading or open to the public. Any investment-linked instruments will require product-specific legal disclosures, including who receives rights to income and what risks apply.

Token announcement is not token availability

Soneium said its planned ecosystem-native SONEIUM token is intended to connect activity across the network, but issuance details, eligibility criteria and timing have not been released. Users should be wary of tokens marketed as officially issued by Soneium before an authenticated network announcement.

BlockBriefing recently covered institutional tokenization plans involving Startale. That financial-services partnership is separate from Soneium’s entertainment-token plans.
