The Cardano Foundation confirmed on October 29, 2026 that it has joined Switzerland’s Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA), expanding its participation in efforts to establish standards for tokenized securities.
Membership follows an earlier technical decision
The latest development is the foundation’s entry into the Swiss industry association. It follows an October 7 CMTA announcement recognizing a particular implementation of Cardano’s CIP-0113 programmable tokens as equivalent to the association’s CMTAT framework for tokenized shares.
That technical recognition was not granted on October 29, and it should not be described as a newly approved securities product. The same-day news is membership, confirmed by the Cardano Foundation’s October 29 company announcement and CMTA’s official social channels.
What CIP-0113 allows issuers to enforce
Cardano’s programmable-token standard lets issuers apply conditions to certain native assets, including holder verification, restrictions on transfers and actions required by applicable compliance rules.
These controls can be important for securities, where investors’ identities, transfer eligibility and legal claims cannot always be handled in the same way as permissionless cryptocurrency transfers. The underlying technology remains separate from the legal rules for a specific financial instrument.
Recognition is limited to tokenized equity
CMTA’s decision covers the mandatory functions needed for its tokenized-shares certification framework, subject to conditions. It is not an endorsement of all Cardano applications, all tokenized debt instruments or the security and suitability of Cardano’s underlying blockchain infrastructure.
Issuers that use the recognized implementation must still satisfy the applicable legal and certification requirements. A token being technically compatible with CMTA’s framework does not mean the association has certified that company’s shares or approved a fundraising offer.
Why participation in a standards body matters
Industry standards can make it easier for banks, technology companies, lawyers and issuers to evaluate common asset structures across different networks. By joining the association, Cardano’s foundation may contribute to work on interoperability and the practical issuance of regulated securities.
The foundation’s own October 7 release explains the launch of programmable tokens on mainnet. October 29 membership is a separate step and does not itself establish fresh transaction volumes or a new institutional securities launch.
