Digital-asset insurance specialist Soter Insure says SC Ventures, the venture arm of Standard Chartered, and Japan’s SBI Group have joined its Series B financing alongside a follow-on investment from Token Bay Capital.

The November 5 company announcement describes a second closing of a round led by Galaxy. It did not disclose the amount raised in this closing, Soter’s valuation or the exact ownership stakes purchased by the new investors.

New Investors Join a Previously Announced Financing Round

Soter said its Galaxy-led Series B was first announced in July 2026. Coinbase Ventures, Franklin Templeton and Brevan Howard Digital were among the earlier participants.

The latest additions widen the investor group to include firms with banking and broader financial-services connections. The announcement presents that institutional backing as support for Soter’s effort to develop insurance products for digital-asset firms.

Because financial terms are undisclosed, the involvement of well-known investors should not be treated as evidence of a particular company valuation or future investment return.

Insurance Addresses Risks Beyond Price Volatility

Crypto institutions can face operational exposures including employee misconduct, cybercrime, failures involving smart contracts and validator penalties. Some of those risks may be addressed through specialized insurance contracts, depending on their language and exclusions.

Soter describes products intended to cover areas such as directors’ and officers’ liability, crime, slashing and smart-contract failures. The existence of these product categories does not mean that every client or incident will be eligible for compensation.

Coverage is determined by insured events, limits, deductibles, exclusions, applicable jurisdictions and the financial capacity of the relevant underwriting entities.

Digital assets also create valuation and settlement complexities when claims or premiums are denominated in cryptocurrencies rather than traditional currencies.

Proceeds Target Underwriting and International Expansion

According to the company, proceeds from the financing will help expand insurance capacity, underwriting technology and its geographical reach. Soter has identified Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States as markets where it intends to develop operations.

Expanding underwriting capacity is different from announcing that a particular claim has been insured or paid. The November 5 release did not identify a new universal policy available to all cryptocurrency holders.

The participation of SC Ventures and SBI may facilitate introductions to institutions seeking specialized coverage, but future policy volumes and financial performance remain unknown.

Institutional Crypto Adoption Raises Demand for Risk Infrastructure

As asset managers, banks and payment firms interact with digital assets, the surrounding infrastructure becomes as important as trading systems. Custody providers, compliance specialists, auditors and insurers each address different elements of operational risk.

BlockBriefing recently covered UstarPay’s custody partnership with BitGo and Bitget’s Open Custody Network. Custody arrangements and insurance policies are not substitutes for one another.

For prospective insurance customers, the most important questions are who underwrites a policy, which events trigger coverage, what limits apply and how a claim is resolved. It is also important to distinguish a company’s fundraising announcement from the financial strength ratings, regulatory status and actual claim-paying resources of its insurance partners. No new policy premium volume or insured-asset total was independently established in the November 5 disclosure. The Series B announcement establishes investor support for the business rather than independently verifying the suitability of any individual insurance product.
