Sony Group has launched a global incubation program for creators and startups working on entertainment products that use blockchain technology, with applications opening on October 29, 2026. The Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program will focus on projects willing to build on Soneium, the blockchain ecosystem associated with Sony’s onchain initiatives.

In its October 29 announcement, Sony positioned the new program around direct creator-fan engagement, digital ownership, community participation and potential new business models for entertainment. The company did not announce a new cryptocurrency sale or investment product alongside the launch.

Who can apply for Sony’s onchain program?

The program is designed for startups and creators developing entertainment-related products or services, including software applications and supporting infrastructure. Projects may already operate on Soneium or plan to launch there.

Sony says evaluators will consider the originality of each entertainment concept, its approach to intellectual property, its community-building potential, commercial scalability, team track record and competitive environment. Applicants should therefore expect selection to consider both a product’s entertainment value and its ability to operate as a viable service.

The application period runs from October 29 through December 2026. Screening and selection are expected from November 2026 through March 2027, although Sony notes that the schedule could change depending on application volume and program progress.

Commercial support beyond technical development

Selected participants could receive access to Soneium technology infrastructure, collaboration opportunities with Sony Group businesses, business development and marketing support, introductions to communities and potential fundraising connections.

The precise package for each company will be decided through consultation with the selected team. Sony has not said that every applicant will receive funding, that all selected projects will receive identical commercial support or that investment is guaranteed.

The program seeks to move projects beyond software demonstrations toward entertainment experiences that are useful to audiences. Potential use cases include systems through which fans engage more directly with creators, communities participate in projects and rights or other digital assets become part of a service.

Sony builds on 43 projects supported previously

Sony says two earlier incubation programs, run as part of its onchain efforts since 2024, selected and supported a combined 43 projects. That figure refers to earlier programs; it is not the number of companies already admitted to the new October 29 initiative.

The company is now narrowing its emphasis specifically to entertainment. While blockchain-based products can make certain rights and transfers easier to track, real consumer adoption also depends on licensing, usable interfaces, legal protections and the design of each project.

For developers, the program offers a route to seek technical and commercial assistance from a major entertainment company. For consumers, the longer-term question is whether any supported projects deliver accessible products rather than speculative digital collectibles.

The initiative follows separate Soneium ecosystem developments covered by BlockBriefing, including Soneium’s plans for an ecosystem token and a royalty-linked digital-asset initiative. Those are distinct projects and should not be assumed to be funded by this incubator.
