Financial infrastructure provider Movantis plans to integrate the Stellar blockchain as an additional settlement rail, beginning with USDC-backed cross-border transfers from the United States to El Salvador. The arrangement was announced at Meridian 2026 in Lisbon on October 29.

Stellar adds another settlement option

In the Stellar Development Foundation’s announcement, the parties describe the integration as one part of Movantis’s existing multi-rail payments infrastructure. Stellar would handle a digital settlement component, while Movantis and its regulated local partners would continue to manage liquidity, any necessary conversion and final payouts.

The arrangement is intended to let financial institutions and payment businesses use blockchain settlement without requiring recipients to interact with a cryptocurrency wallet. For the initial corridor, the planned use case is to settle in USDC and pay out in US dollars in El Salvador.

Initial rollout targets the El Salvador corridor

Movantis says the first use case will operate through its regulated subsidiaries and local partners. The announcement describes the proposed configuration and its potential benefits, but it does not provide a confirmed date for when customers will begin using the new route or independently verified transaction volumes generated by the integration.

Because the transfer starts and ends with US dollar-denominated value, Movantis argues that the model can avoid adding a separate foreign-exchange exposure on that corridor. The blockchain leg could also operate on weekends and holidays, potentially lowering some prefunding requirements for remittance businesses.

Those are proposed operating advantages rather than published results from a completed rollout. The cost and speed ultimately experienced by users will depend on the full route, including conversion, compliance checks and local payout.

Expansion beyond one market remains a plan

The partners anticipate potential future use for business and consumer flows elsewhere in Latin America and beyond. Movantis says its wider network processes more than 200 million transactions annually, but that existing company-wide figure must not be mistaken for the number of transactions already processed through Stellar.

The announcement adds to a series of institutional developments in the ecosystem. BlockBriefing has separately reported on Securitize’s planned Stellar integration and a tokenized Nasdaq-100 fund on Stellar.
