Solana’s Alpenglow consensus upgrade is live on mainnet, according to engineering team Anza. It targets transaction finality of roughly 150 milliseconds. That is a design goal, not a promise that every transaction will settle in that time.

What Alpenglow changes in Solana’s consensus

Alpenglow replaces the previous TowerBFT consensus protocol and moves validator voting off-chain, using certificates to help the network reach agreement in fewer rounds.

Actual confirmation times will depend on network conditions and the policies used by exchanges, wallets and applications. Faster protocol finality does not eliminate congestion, software defects or application-level risks.

Why live performance still needs measurement

Solana’s official upgrade tracker lists Alpenglow under Agave 4.3 as live on mainnet in October 2026. Its approximately 150-millisecond finality figure is a protocol target. It should not be read as a guarantee about every transaction or the time it takes an exchange to credit a deposit.

The tracker also lists validator-related work, including BLS public keys and the Validator Admission Ticket, in its wider upgrade programme. Those changes concern how validators participate in consensus and how the network manages its operation. They do not remove congestion, application failures or risks at exchanges. Performance claims should be measured under real conditions rather than inferred from headline targets.

Post-launch assessment will depend on observed reliability, performance under heavy demand, validator participation and application adoption. Exchange deposit and withdrawal policies may not change immediately. See the project documentation for technical details and the launch announcement for the engineering team’s description of the deployment.
